Message from:
Richard deVerdier, 2014 ICAP President

Dear Members of ICAP:

Twenty years ago ICAP was formed out of a need for a unified voice loud enough to be heard in Springfield. Since then, ICAP has been promoting the appraisal profession and its image to the general public and to users of appraisal services. This is an exciting time for ICAP; however, in the months ahead our organization has a lot of work to do. This year ICAP will focus our efforts in the following four major categories:

1. Legislation
2. Seminars
3. Communication
4. Trainees

1) Legislation

This year ICAP will fulfill its mission, “to initiate discussion and analysis of issues affecting professional appraisers and monitor political action with the intent to influence legislation, regulation, and public opinion toward the appraisal profession.” Specifically,ICAP is monitoring the proposed rewrites of the Illinois Real Estate Licensing Act & the Appraisal Management Company Registration Act. ICAP is currently working on supporting the changes that have a positive impact on the appraisal profession and opposing changes that will have a negative impact.

2) Seminars

For the 14th consecutive year ICAP will continue its tradition of putting on our Illinois Appraisers Update Seminars. ICAP’s annual seminars have developed a reputation for being the most informative and up-to-date seminars the real estate industry has to offer. ICAP will present its 2014 seminars on the following dates and at these locations:

  • · Springfield- July 14th, 2014
  • · Godfrey Seminar August 15, 2014
  • · Lisle- August 18th, 2014

Every year, ICAP’S Update Seminars host several hundred professional appraisers from around Illinois and sell out early, so please save the date.

3) Communication

Part of this year’s focus will be to increase communication. Recently, ICAP has added a Suggestions Box and a Twitter feed to its home page. This, along with ICAP’s social media campaign, has made it easier than ever to communicate with ICAP. It has been ICAP’s goal to inform its membership of legislative issues that have the ability to impact the appraisal profession. In 2014, ICAP will continue to make advancements in communications; not only with its members, but also its sponsors and legislators. This will ensure that ICAP remains a political force for Illinois appraisers.

As part of its efforts to increase communication, ICAP will be revitalizing its National Coalition efforts. The National Appraisal Coalition is a communication, networking, and education tool for real estate appraisal coalitions across the country.

4) Trainees

Arguably the most important objective for ICAP in 2014 will be to strengthen the Illinois Licensed Appraiser Trainee community. This year ICAP is looking forward to hosting a program, along with the IDFPR, which will satisfy the mandatory AQB Supervisor/Trainee course. The program will review the responsibilities of a supervisor and trainee as required by USPAP, the AQB, and Illinois State Appraisal Law. ICAP believes we have a responsibility to ensure that future generations of real estate appraisers have a path to professionalism in Illinois.

In closing, I would like to thank all of ICAP’s past Presidents and Directors for their efforts that have made ICAP the national leader of State Appraisal Coalitions.  ICAP was formed by appraisers who recognized that legislators needed to hear from a unified voice representing the entire industry. It will be my goal this year to keep that legacy alive.

Thank you for this opportunity.
