2014 ICAP President

Members of ICAP:

With over 1,500 members, your support was the driving force behind this year’s legislative success, and your continued support will ensure that ICAP will remain the most well-respected political action group for real estate appraisers in the nation. To read ICAP’s 2014 Legislative Update click here.

ICAP’s Political Action Committee (PAC)

ICAP’s Political Action Committee (PAC) receives contributions from its members and utilizes those funds to help elect candidates who support appraiser related issues. ICAP’s PAC is non-partisan, supporting both Republican and Democratic candidates who promote the legislative priorities of the appraisal profession in Illinois. This year, ICAP made political contributions to Representative Robert Rita (28th District), Marcus C. Evans, Jr. (33rd District), Brad Schneider (Illinois’s 10th Congressional District), and attended a political fundraiser in support of the democratic candidates for the Illinois House of Representatives.

On Friday, October 17, ICAP will be having a PAC fundraiser celebrating its 20th Anniversary. The fundraiser will be held at 205 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 202, Chicago, IL and will begin at 3:30 P.M. (immediately after the ICAP’s Supervisor/Trainee Seminar). Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served and attendance will be limited. To register, please donate at least $25 to ICAP’s PAC fund. If you are not be able to attend the event, you can still make a contribution. To register for the event, or make a contribution, please click here

Communication

This year ICAP increased its communication efforts by developing a radio commercial (Radio Promo Spot for ICAP Membership), a membership mailer (sent to every licensed appraiser in Illinois), by advertising in the Illinois State Appraisal Forum, and by creating a membership brochure highlighting the benefits of ICAP membership.

ICAP is hosting a meeting of the newly formed network of state appraisal coalitions. This network of state coalitions actively communicates appraisal issues trending throughout the nation. In order to bring our membership the latest information from Washington, DC, ICAP will be once again attending the fall meeting of the Association of Appraiser Regulator Officials.

Associate Real Estate Trainees

One of ICAP’s most important objectives in 2014 has been to strengthen the Illinois Associate Real Estate Trainee Appraiser community. ICAP needs to ensure that future generations of real estate appraisers have a path to professionalism in Illinois. This is one reason why ICAP’s Board of Directors passed a motion introducing new associate trainee membership pricing for 2015. The promotion is currently active and entitles all Illinois Associate Real Estate Trainee Appraisers to receive a 2015 ICAP membership for $30 (50% off regular price!). This promotion is currently running and will last through the end of 2015.

The Illinois Supervisor—Trainee Course

This year, in addition to its three update seminars ICAP will be hosting The Illinois Supervisor—Trainee Course. The course will satisfy the mandatory AQB Supervisor/Trainee course requirement. The first offering will be held in Chicago on October 17, 2014. In order to meet the locational demand of all of the state’s licensees, a second course is in development for December 5th in the Bloomington/Normal area (registration to be announced). The program is mandatory for all newly licensed trainees (after 2015) and supervisors who want to supervise a trainee appraiser after January 1, 2015. Current trainees are not required to take the course; however, they are encouraged to. The course will review the responsibilities of a supervisor and trainee as required by USPAP, the AQB, and Illinois state appraisal law.

ICAP is anticipating strong demand for this course and attendance will be limited. It is critical that attendees register well in advance to reserve their spot. Register at the ICAP homepage (http://www.icapweb.com ) in the EVENTS box located on the right hand side of the page or by clicking here.

The Appraisal Foundation Advisory Counsel (TAFAC)

Part of ICAP’s mission is to “initiate discussion and analysis of issues affecting professional appraisers”. In furtherance of this mission, ICAP submitted an application to become a member of TAFAC. TAFAC is composed of 57 non-profit organizations and government agencies, which represent appraisers, users of appraisal services, and government agencies. TAFAC serves to involve the public in the appraisal standards and appraiser qualifications development process. ICAP will be attending TAFAC’s January 2015 meeting in Washington, D.C. for an in person interview.

Membership

Your annual membership dues are essential to ICAP, ensuring that ICAP will remain a strong political activist for all of the appraisers in the state of Illinois. Thank you for your continued support and please do not forget to donate to ICAP’s PAC.
